Vice Chairman: Professor Ying CHAU

Dr. Ying Chau has joined The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 2006. She is now an Associate Professor in the Division of Biomedical Engineering and holds a joint appointment with the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. She is affiliated with the Center for Cancer Research and the Nano Science and Technology Program at HKUST. From 2009-2012, she served in the committee of the Biomedical Engineering Discipline of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Dr. Chau received her B.S. from Cornell University (1995), M.S. from University of Pennsylvania (1999), and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2005). Her technical background was enriched by her working experience in vaccine development at Merck Research Laboratories, USA (1995-1999). Her current research interests include the design of drug delivery approaches and biomaterials for ocular applications and cancer targeting, and the self-assembly of nanostructures using polymers and peptides. A recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award from the School of Engineering at HKUST (2010), she is a keen teacher of topics integrating life science and engineering principles. She is passionate about engaging both undergraduate and postgraduate students in various design and research projects to address unmet healthcare needs. Her students have been recognized with numerous awards (such as Champion of President's Cup at HKUST, Young Investigator Awards at the WACBE World Congress on Bioengineering, Champion Award in Young Engineers' Paper Competition in the Biomedical Engineering International Conference, First Prize in IEEE-EMBS Hong Kong Macau Joint Chapter's student paper competition).
