Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC)Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) and Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks (HKSTP) had jointly organized a seminar on supports to testing and certification industry. HKBIO is one of the supporting organizations of the event.

The seminar introduced some major supporting services for the testing and certification industry. It covered the accreditation services for laboratories, the Innovation and Technology Fund, the SME Funds and services of Science Park, e.g. shared laboratory facilities. The seminar also included a tour to Science Park's Material Analysis Laboratory, Reliability Laboratory, Failure Analysis Laboratory, Biotechnology Support Laboratory and Wireless Communications Test Laboratory. There was also a session by ICAC to introduce the importance of professional integrity, the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance and corruption prevention services provided to the industry. September 12 - 15, 2011

Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) held its major international event this year: Think Asia, Think Hong Kong, a first-of-its-kind mega promotion in the United Kingdom. The Hon Donald TSANG, GBM, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government, Lord SASSOON, British Commercial Secretary to the Treasury, and Lord GREEN, British Minister of State for Trade and Investment are the featured keynote speakers in the Main Symposium, attended by 1000 industry players. Professor Albert Cheung-Hoi YU, Chairman of HKBIO, was invited to speak on the topic "Hong Kong - Poised to be Asia's Biotechnology Hub" at the thematic session: BioTech at Science Park - Your Safe and Fast Track to China. Click here for the official video of the speech.

The 2011 Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Forum was held by The Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Co-operation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) and The Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council (THEC) at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. MOU was signed with Taiwan delegates in order to strengthen cooperation on biotechnology development between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

July 19 - 21, 2011

HKBIO members and local biotech key players had attended the BioBusiness Asia Conference (BBA) cum BioTaiwan International Exhibition in Taiwan on July 19-21, 2011. BBA and BioTaiwan International Exhibition were two of the key annual events in Taiwan's biotech industry. Participants registering through HKBIO were privileged to have free access to the conference, partnering sections and being the presenting companies. Aside from attending the BBA, participants also attended the BioTaiwan International Exhibition where we had the honour to meet Mr. Vincent SIEW, Vice President of Taiwan, and Mr. CHIU, Allen Wen-Hsiang, Deputy Mayor of Taipei City, and had a visit at Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI). The event had come up with mutual collaboration between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

HKBIO had co-organized with HKSTP a visit to HKSTP for St. Francis Xavier's School students on July 12, 2011. The group of 30+ students had visited the laboratory for incubatees at HKSTP Biotech Centre 2, the drug R&D laboratory of Comprehensive Drug Enterprise, the laboratory of Nanoparticle and Advance Material Institute (NAMI) and Powder Pharmaceuticals Ltd. on laboratory and GMP facilities, to have a better understanding on the technology. The visit proves to be a very valuable experience for secondary school students to have a touch on real-life applications on biotechnology.
