HKBIO was the supporting organization for the biomedical event titled “Study Mission on Health and Beauty Care Technology to South Korea” organized by Hong Kong Productivity Council. The mission enabled local medical devices, healthcare and beauty care industries to explore the most updated health technology development and beauty care applications in South Korea, facilitate further collaborations with the Korean industries on health and beauty care, exploration of cooperation in terms of distribution, technology partnership, business partnership and networking.

HKBIO was the supporting organization of the 2012 Shandong-Hong Kong Environmental and Bio-Pharmaceutical Seminar (2012魯港環保與生物醫藥領域協同創新推介談會). The seminar was co-organized by the Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, Department of Environment of Shandong Province (山東省環保廳)), Education, Science & Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong SAR and the Innovation and Technology Commission. The seminar had brought together the Shandong delegates and the Hong Kong industry players for potential business opportunities in Shandong.

June 14-21, 2012

Building on the success of the 2011 BIO International Convention - Hong Kong Delegation, Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization (HKBIO), Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) had again co-organized to lead a BIO 2012 Hong Kong Biotechnology Delegation, comprising prominent Hong Kong biotech companies and organizations, to exhibit at the BIO 2012 International Convention at Boston during June 18-21, 2012. Prior to the Convention and Exhibition, a side mission to Boston was organized to visit key biotechnology companies, research and educational institutes during June 14-15, 2012, and to attend the Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association New England (SAPA-NE) Annual Conference on June 16 2012. Delegates of the Mission were privileged to meet representatives and explore international collaboration opportunities between biotech industries of U.S. and Hong Kong.

In order to strengthen collaboration between biotechnology development between Hong Kong, China and Australia, HKBIO and Australia's Biotechnology Organization (AusBiotech) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on May 24, 2012 (Thursday) at the Hong Kong Science Park. The MOU was signed by Prof. Albert Cheung-Hoi YU, Chairman of HKBIO, and Mr. Glenn CROSS, Chief Operating Officer of AusBiotech, and witnessed by Mr Andrew DAVIS, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion 1, Invest Hong Kong, Dr. Cecilia PANG, Biotechnology Director, Innovation and Technology Commission, Mr. Paul TIGHE, Consul-General of Australia in Hong Kong and Macao and Mr. Phil INGRAM, Senior Trade Commissioner, Australian Trade Commission (Austrade). May 10 - May 13, 2012

HKBIO senior executives together with Mr. Bill MORAN, Director of Global Collaboration and Operations in Custom Publishing of Science, had a trip to Taiwan aiming to seek potential collaborations between biotech industries among Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. The delegates were able to meet with the Development Center for BiotechnologyTaiwan Bio Industry OrganizationBiotechnology & Pharmaceutical Industries Promotion Office, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Cross-Strait Biotech Industry Cooperation Promotion Office. They also visited the Office for Industrialization Promotion of Agricultural Biotechnology in Academia Sinica, the NanKang Incubation Center and a few renowned biotech companies.
