The Hong Kong Biotech Horizon series began with its kickstart symposium on November 20-21, 2013 at Charles K. Kao Auditorium in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.

The first day symposium

The first symposium of the series was center around Translation Medicine, focusing on Promising Researches in Cancer Therapies and Diagnostics, featuring keynote lecture by Professor Roger D. Kornberg, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006 and invited lecture of up-front biotechnological developments around the Globe.

Nobel-Student Interaction for high school students gained insights on what science was and how to become a scientist happened concurrently in the afternoon on the first day of the Symposium.

The second day symposium

The second day of this symposium was a half-day industry-focused program, consisting of presentations and a panel discussion, and explored issues on the policies and regulations that affected research and development, as well as progress in clinical trials in HK and Greater China. Translational Cancer Research Fundraiser Kick-off Gala

Gala Reception and Dinner, the Gala Dinner aims to enhance awareness of the exciting opportunities revealed in cutting edge scientific research in diagnosing, treating and preventing cancer through bridging the chasm between cutting edge cancer research and current standard practice in Greater China and Asia, which exists through the severe shortage of funding for the transformation of biomedical discoveries into a daily reality in saving patients with cancer. It brought together renowned scientists and innovators, influential representatives from the government and industry, as well as those who care.
